RE: Learning Curve is Getting Straighter

Yep - the planning is fun.
It sounds like your arrangement is similar to ours - DW is always referring to the Next Exit book, checking signs - my extra pair of eyes. (She's also the primary dog-walker at rest stops.) She makes each trip easier.

RE: Air deflector mod

Buy white styrofoam bowls and cut then in half. Connect to roof with double face tape. On our TT they fit perfectly on the vents themselves.
The wood deflector looks a bit rough for a finished roof. Sorry
And styrofoam bowls would look less rough? I'll stay with the wood, thank you - they'll look better after I finish them.

RE: Air deflector mod

Do you have a opening you can slide open on your unit to let alot of air blow down? It seems there may be a design issue with those units. When the air blasts down on that closed vent it doesn't know where to go. check this thread out..
Link
What closed vent? With the deflectors, all of them are open - and working fine, I might add.

RE: Winnebago GNR

Good to hear that it worked so well for you.
Our next-door neighbors just got back from it, and were quite enthusiastic. Maybe we'll go next year.

Thanks, Andrew -
Yes, they do get the job done - much better than the OE vents.
I should have waited to post pics though - after I got them "prettied up" some. Oh well......

RE: Michelin is in trouble !!!

I had a local dealer try to sell me Hankook tires one time. I declined the opportunity.
Just the name put me off a little, I must confess.....

RE: Air deflector mod

You could also check out the duct work section at Home Depot, Lowes or local hardware store. Look for the dryer vent outlets. Some can be found with plastic covers instead of the aluminum cover. They come as white, are lighter and probably easier to mount to the existing vent.
I did condider different dryer vents - also stovepipe, PVC elbows, you name it. I put a lot of thought into it. Each alternative had its own drawbacks. Chosing wood was my own personal decision, of course.

RE: Air deflector mod

I was thinking it would be white paint - trying to match the color of the vents. Making them pretty will probably be a job for the off-season.

Air deflector mod

The ceiling vents for our A/C have left a little to be desired - the vanes didn't change the airflow much.
I came up with ((link removed 8/2/08)).
Not an example of great craftsmanship, but they do the job.....
Has anyone else done something similar to this?

RE: Maxxair or Fantastic fan ?

Our rig came equipped with a Fantastic Fan, but with the usual crank open vent.
So we just had a MaxxAir II vent cover put on over it. The best of both, as I see it.....
The Fantastic Fan moves a LOT of air.

RE: How do we find the smaller CGs??

http://www.crosseyedcricket.com/try this one.you will not be disappointed
Sorry to post something contrary to your post, but I'm guessing you haven't been there recently.
We liked it in 5/07, but things had gone downhill a LOT when we returned in 10/07. It was so bad that we left early.
Other people posting on rvparkreviews.com seem to have had similar experiences. Too bad - it used to be a great place.
I heard the owners have health/aging problems - it's showing in how much attention they pay to the campground.

RE: How do we find the smaller CGs??

It might seem cumbersome, but we use Trailer Life's directory on our computer. We zoom into an area, note the campgrounds, move the cursor over a CG and note the info shown off to the side. We can readily see the specs / features for the particular CG.

RE: New - Need Advice and Moral Support

We started off with a 22' unit - I ultimately removed the passenger seat and made a platform for two Vari-Kennels to ride on (to get them at the same height as the coach's floor). It seemed like a strange thing to do, but that relatively small amount of gained floor space made things a lot easier. (DW concurred, even though it meant she rode in back when we were rolling.)

RE: New - Need Advice and Moral Support

I checked out that small pic in your profile - do you have 3 Cocker Spaniels? Say 35 pounds each? Do you carry crates with you? Does the MH have a slide?
The reason I ask is the 22' might be a little small for 3 dogs that size, especially with crates. We carry 3 dogs and their crates - they're smaller than Cockers. It would be tough if we didn't have the slide.
I'm thinking about floor space - there isn't much of it in a 22' MH.

RE: roof vents up or down

Have the vents closed if you don't have covers on them. MaxxAirs are the best, but there are "clones" (like Camco). If you have a "Fantastic Fan"/vent, you'll have to go with the larger MaxxAir II. (As a matter of fact, I just had one put on today.)
IMNSHO, they should be standard equipment on all rigs.

Biodiesel in your area?

Last week, we were surprised to see nothing but B11 available in Mount Vernon, IL. We passed it up. Good thing, too - because our owner's manual said to use a maximum of B5. A quote from our manual: "Diesel fuels containing a higher percentage of Bio diesel content will cause damage to your engine and are not approved. Damage of malfunctions resulting from poor fuel quality are not covered by the Sprinter Warranty."
"Skipole" (another forum member) communicated with Chrysler (he's on a trip, but gave me permission to post some of his communications). A portion from one of Chrysler's e-mails:
"The current recommendation is that Chrysler LLC diesel vehicles (Liberty, Grand Cherokee and Ram) may be run on a biodiesel blend of maximum 5 percent (B5 meeting the ASTM specification, D6751)"
The purpose of this thread is NOT to discuss the merits of biodiesel, or Chrysler's postion on it.
I'm just trying to determine specifically where it's at. (Not general areas)
Also, I'm trying to give Chrysler diesel owners a "heads up" to check their owners manuals.
